We are Kusatsu-Onsen Tourist Supporters!

Tourist Supporters are volunteer guides to assist non-Japanese guests in sightseeing, at the center of Kusatsu-Onsen, to make your visit to Kusatsu a pleasant one. Supporter guides are offered free of charge.
If you would like to have a guide during your stay at Kusatsu, please send the following information.

[How to register?]
Please send an email describing the information below (1~4) at least 2 weeks before your trip to Kusatsu.
You will receive a reply mail on availability of the Supporter guide in 5 days.
1. Name of representative of the group
2. Number of participants
3. Name and telephone number of your hotel/inn in Kusatsu-Onsen
4. Preferred date and time
(One-hour tour on a selected date is offered per each group)
- Day/Month/Year
- Time (describe all the time slots of your convenience to increase probability of the guide)

*You can also register by FAX, when you arrive at Kusatsu-Onsen.

Some hotels/inns prepare a fax sheet for the registration of the Supporter guide. Or you can get the fax sheet at the Kusatsu-Onsen Tourism Association (草津温泉観光協会) or at the Kusatsu-Onsen Hotels/Inns Association (草津温泉旅館協同組合). The fax registration must be made one day before by 16:00 at the latest.

Experience the 400 years Tradition in Kusatsu.
Shinto priests dig out the ice brocks from the chamber and treat you to shaved ice, together with the sound of Koto and the tea ceremony.

Kusatsu Hot Spring Appreciation Festival (August 1st, 2nd and 3rd)

This summer festival gives thanks to the hot springs and Onsen( hot spring) visitors.
The Yubatake is bustling with Onsen visitors during the three-day event, where shrine ritual, performed by Miss Kusatsu of the year in the role of a goddess, open-air song festival and other events are held.

Kusatsu International Summer Music Academy & Festival (mid to end of August)

One of summer features in Kusatsu.
The summer music Academy is held by inviting outstanding players of classical music from the U.S. and Europe as instructors. Along with the academy, the Festival (concert) is held everyday, in which great technique is exhibited by the instructors.

Kusatsu Old Path and Autumn Leaves Hike (the season for autumn leaves in Kusatsu)

Let’s enjoy autumn in Kusatsu while stepping on fallen leaves. You will view the Joufu Falls, one of the best 100 falls in Japan, from a distance while enjoying autumnal leaves on Kusatsu Old Path.

Kusatsu Ski Resort-Opening Ceremonies (mid-December)

Kusatsu Ski Resort will open on December 17th.
This ski area is a full-sized facility featuring eight kilometers of downhill courses that have a vertical drop of some 900 meters.

Jazz concert in "Yukemuri"(December or January)

"Yukemuri" means steam coming off a hot spring.
The jazz concert will held at Netu-no-yu which has a large bathtub for "Yumomi" show.
We enjoy the concert in an unique situation.

Snow Hina-Dolls Festival (end of February or early March)

Snow Hina-Dolls and snow huts are illuminated by fantastic candlelight. Enjoy fantasy world, where fairy like dolls are lit up by more than 1000 candles.
