Yubatake

Yubatake Located in the heart of the spa resort area, the source of the hot spirings  Ethe symbol of Kusatsu - gushes as much as 4,000L of hot water per minute. The very hot water is sent to each spa facility and Ryokan via wooden gutter. Yubatake is lit up after dark to create a stunning sight and wonderful atmosphere. The gourd-shaped Yubatake and its environs "Yuho to Ikoi no Ba (lit. The place of promenade and relaxation)" is built under the supervision of a famous artist Taro Okamoto. The names of the 100 celebrities who have visited Kusatsu are carved on a stone parapet.

Yukemuri-tei Yunohana collecting

Yukemuri-tei
Yukemuri-tei is a foot and hand bath facility with hot spring water sent directly from the Yubatake. The all-cypress wood structure is a reproduction of "Matsu-no-yu", a public bathhouse previously stood on the same spot in the Edo era. Drop by to take a rest while strolling in the area. Admission is always free.

Kusatsu onsen's
Yunohana (sinters) are carefully collected by hand from the wooden gutters about four times a year by temporarily stopping the water flow. The annual production of only 7,000 to 8,000 units (sold in a cone-shape container) shows that is a very scarce resource. The public can join the collecting operation once a year. Why don’t you try next time?

Yumomi

Yumomi is the method of cooling the water that gushes directly from the source. By stirring the water with 1.8 m-long paddles, the water is cooled to a suitable bathing temperature without being diluted.
